1,2 I am a rubber plantation owner in east Asia. my job is to supply rubber to the rubber factory. I am a French woman and I live here with my kid, Xiao Jing. My plant is situated in IndoChina. I live with her ever since the mishap happened to me and to my factory. I saw the Japanese army entered Vietnam. I was always worried about her and so I sent her to China. The Japanese army attacked Pearl Harbour and it was clear to me that America also was going to take revenge. Though it was actually caused by America's attack on Hiroshima and Nagasaki but there was always a fear of re-attack. In China I met wang peng and I asked if the country was safe for my adopted daughter. His answer cause my worry as he replied in the negative about the security of the country. When I reached China, I was questioned many times by many security personnel. They inquired a lot about me as I was from Vietnam. I explained to them all what happened there and why I came to China? I had a pathetic start of my life. I lost my parents when I was young. I felt lonely ever since. I had a feeling that the whole world is on one hand and I am on the other. I got a hard time living with myself. I did not even come across one who could help me when I need. So I adopted Xiao as she also was alone and it was an amazing time living with her and spending a long time. I forgot the pangs of loneliness with her. But my difficulties started with my living in China. I purchased a plot of land to initiate commercial agricultural production. But soon Mao abolished private plots and started commune. Overnight, I became a part of a commune where people loathed me because I was an outsider. Soon Mao initiated his unplanned industrialization of Backyard Furnaces. People started furnaces in their houses. Like communes, it was also a very unprofessional work and was initiated just to befool innocent people. The most unfortunate part was that people started cutting trees without thinking of any repercussion on environment. After wasting so much of natural and human resources, the end product was lumps of low quality pig iron, which was of no commercial value. Mao failed in most of his plans, but unfortunately people around him were so scared of him that they were unable to talk about his mistakes.

As you know that I was a rubber plantation owner in East Asia. I was leading a comfortable life there when the tragedy struck and suddenly I became a poor widow who tried hard even to provide two squares meals a day for me and my kid. In happier days, I came across a man who lived down the street. He seemed quite friendly and soon he became friend of my husband. Soon he became a regular companion of my husband’s weekend card parties. He told me that he had a wife and a kid back in Japan. His wife’s name was KodamiRyuki. One day he came to me and asked me to write a letter to his wife on his behalf. He showed me the pictures of her along with his son. She seemed a young but skinny woman. After some time, she visited and I had the opportunity to meet her. She was a charming young woman with full of life and plans for her young son. Today I am reminiscing all threes because last week two terrible incidents happened, which has completely changed the world’s outlook towards war and war-time hostilities. There have been massacres and genocides, but the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki surpassed everything in brutality. First in Hiroshima, About 90,000 people were killed instantly and 40,000 were injured, many of whom died a very agonizing death due to radiation sickness. Three days later, the second atomic bomb, ‘Fat Boy’ struck the city of Nagasaki killing and injuring almost 100,000 innocent people. Both the bombs eventually wiped out more than 200,000 civilians within a few days. Miraculously, I was saved. I only had slight irritation in eyes. So I went ahead to work at a relief camp. Today, I had the most horrific experience of my life. At the relief camp, I saw a young woman clinging to the dead body of his son. The boy’s half of the body was completely burnt, The woman seemed familiar. The moment she saw me, she recognized me and she broke down. The woman was KodamiRyuki. She was adamant that her son is not dead, He is just sleeping and he will come out of it after some time. I told her sternly that this is not the case and her son had been dead for few hours. She cried a bit after the initial heartbreak, but she understood the whole scenario and keft her kid,

Back in Indo China, I was basically a home maker. I rarely used to go out of the house. My husband was friendly. He used to bring people at our home for some get-together, which was a regular feature at my house during weekends. Once he brought a handsome young man named Tom Mackenzie. He was a soldier in the Canadian army. Soon he started coming to our place regularly because he was home sick. The biggest reason for his coming to our place was the home cooked warm food, which he used to relish a lot. Today, I am remembering all these because today, I met Ted after a long time at the relief camp. He was part of the WHO Team and doing the relief work. He had a kind of pain in his eyes. Maybe, because he now regrets that once he was also a part of this mindless war. He also recognized me and we had a long discussion about our lives, war, the atom bomb and the related relief work. He told me one of his horrific experiences of the bomb. He said,” The corn field in front of the WHO base was blown clean. Nothing was left of the crop, except that in place of the pumpkins there was a woman's head. I looked at the face to see if I knew her. It was a woman of about thirty. She must have been from another part of town - I had never seen her around here. That means maybe her head was blown from other part of the town. A gold tooth gleamed in the wide-open mouth. A handful of scraggy hair hung down from the left temple over her cheek, dangling in her mouth. Her eyelids were drawn up, showing black holes where the eyes had been burned out. She was probably near the blast and had looked square into the flash, whisch burned her eyeballs."It was just not right. I was shaking in rage by listening to Ted’s tale. Today I also completely burned out bodies, which are now coming out when rescue workers are digging through rubble. I can’t tolerate kids’ corpses. Although I know that I cannot do anything, yet I cannot stop myself curing the mindless war and crying for millions who have died or lost their family members in the war. I also lost my family. But I think I am strong enough to with stand this and I try to help these war-victims as much as possible.
